Matt Couch is entering his first year at the University of Texas and is currently the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach for Baseball.
Before coming to Texas, Matt previously worked at the University of San Diego, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance since 2011. Matt oversaw all training aspects for baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer along with men’s crew. He was also the lead assistant for both the football and men’s basketball programs. Over his 9-year coaching span, Matt trained over 45 athletes that were selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft, with three of them being first round selections.
Before coaching, Matt was a member of the baseball program at the University of San Diego and was an All-West Coast Conference starting pitcher three times. During his time as a student-athlete he helped lead the Toreros to a top ranking of #4 in the country and three trips to the NCAA tournament.
Matt graduated with a degree in Communications from the University of San Diego and has since received his Master’s degree in Global Leadership from USD. Matt and his wife, Sophia, are expecting their first child, a baby boy this November. They reside here in Austin, Tx.
